MY POPPA PROVES A HANDY PURCHASE
My Poppa had an all the way win in taking out the Tamworth Trophy Supplies Pace last Thursday at Tamworth and it was only by chance the six year old gelding gained a start as he was the first emergency.
“He has got some gate speed – he was emergency so lucky he got the run” said part owner and trainer Aaron Garaty who also handled the driving in the 1609 metre event.
From the pole Garaty sent My Poppa straight to the lead and held that position right to the line where the Santastics Pan-Smooth Summit gelding had a 5.2 metre win over Five Star Nuisance (Rodney Atkins) and Coast Warning (Bruce Andrews) a head away third.
With only a handful of starts My Poppa – a six year old gelding - is proving to be a cheap buy.
“We purchased him at a clearing sale” added Garaty.
With only four race starts My Poppa has had three starts for the Garaty stables based at Holmesville.
First win was the Saturday prior at Newcastle with a mile rate of 1.58.0 for 1609 meters before backing up for the win at Tamworth.
“He went 58 at Newcastle and we have just brought his sister as well”
“Once he won on Saturday night and a good barrier draw today I knew we would win” added Garaty.
