MAGIC MADDIE BREAKS HER DROUGHT
The drought has been broken for Magic Maddie – that’s the winning drought!
Tamworth HRC hosted two heats of the Droughtbreaker Series last week and the Cameron Davies trained Magic Maddie was the first to break through in taking out the Changeover Droughtbreaker Mile.
“It was a really good run” said Davies after the win “She got a bit of luck which is needed around here (Tamworth)”
Placed three back on the inside running line it was only when the field turned into the home straight on the final occasion that Magic Maddie made it known she was looking for a win.
Immortal Glory (Dean Germon) headed up the field with Melton Marvel (Tom Ison) racing out in the breeze with Davies making his way off the fence up the back straight on the final occasion to hop onto the back of race favourite Pay On The Pacer (Daniel Morgan).
As the field rounded the final turn Magic Maddie (Couarage Under Fire- Dolly Sox) made the run down the home straight to snatch a half head win over race favourite Pay On The Pacer (Daniel Morgan) and Aces First (Sarah Rushbrook) 1.9 metres away third.
“We followed Pay On The Pacer through” said Davies
“I was confident coming into the race” added Davies “last week’s run was really good here”
Coming into the race Magic Maddie finished third to Dawson Street (Darren Elder) the week prior at Tamworth in the running of the Vale Bill Grima Pace with the winner clocking 1.59.1 for the 1609 metres.
Magic Maddie will enjoy a swim or two as a lead up to the final on May 5 back at Tamworth.
‘We might do a little bit of swimming before then but she won’t start before the final”
Magic Maddie had her last win 20 starts prior at Wagga back in January 2014.
