CULINARY DELIGHT WINS DASH FOR CASH by Julie Maughan

Culinary Delight set a new track record in taking out the $8,000 BMR Quarries Dash For Cash at Paceway Tamworth.

Trained out of Morisset by Mark Callaghan who also took the reins behind the Lis Mara – Culinary Affair six year old mare who had an 11 metre win over her opposition and smashed the track record set by Shootforthestarzzz - 1min 56 sec -back in 2014.

Culinary Delight made a gastronomic feast of the 1230 metres when she clocked 1min 53.6 sec!

"That was a very quick mile rate around here" said Callaghan.

"She jumped straight to the front" added Callaghan of Culinary Delight who had commenced from the two barrier. "Deucestar had the early speed but couldn’t cross me"

Maitland reinsman Brad Elder elected to send Deucestar forward to place pressure on Culinary Delight in the early stages of the race.

The win of Culinary Delight by 11 metres over Readily (Lola Weidemann) and Benji M Brogden (Madi Young) a half head away third handed Callaghan back-to-back wins in the BMR Quarries Dash For Cash as he won the event last year with Strawberry Courage.

Racing out in the lead Callaghan was gaining confidence and Culinary Delight was gaining momentum with each stride the mare put in.

"I was confident" said Callaghan "I knew she was running along at a good tempo and nothing around me was making ground"

"I think she is a Menangle class horse" added Callaghan "she won there last Saturday night and she is in again this Saturday night".

Culinary Delight came into the Dash For Cash off a win at Menangle with a mile rate of 1.53.2 for 1609 metres.

And Callaghan’s verdict on the Dash For Cash – considering he has won two!

"They are a great novelty race – something different" added Callaghan

Culinary Delight has proved to be a good purchase out of NZ for Newcastle owners Matt Chidgey, former Newcastle Knight Trent Salkeld and Chris Schneider with the mare producing four wins from seven starts.

Celebrations were placed on hold as Callaghan had a quick change of colours to contest the following event with Party Rage – also a winner for the stables.

The win may have heralded a winning double for the stables but it was a very tight finish in the Wests Entertainment Group Pace.

Party Rage won by a short half head over Irishtown Babe (Julie Weidemann) and Hero Bromac (Lola Weidemann) 5 metres way third.

"She knuckled down really good" said Callaghan of Party Rage after the win "I was confident but didn’t want to be overly confident until the number was in the frame".

"Tamworth is a great Club – I like coming her and the track is in fantastic order"
