HIGH ON DREAMS DEFIES HIS TRAINER FOR SECOND WIN

The win of High On Dreams in the Changeover and Live Or Die Droughtbreaker Mile Final at Tamworth last Thursday was somewhat of a surprise for trainer Dean Germon.

"He won’t win another race" – well that was the light hearted reaction of Dean Germon when High On Dreams cracked his maiden status with an all the way win at Inverell the week prior at race start 69.

Roll forward four days after the eight year old gelding’s first career win and High On Dreams wraps up the Final at Tamworth.

High On Dreams (Dream Away USA- Vin Cere) made his way into the Final after finishing third to The Matrix at Tamworth in the second heat of the Droughtbreaker Mile back on April 21.

"Well I thought he wouldn’t win another race but he has won two now and he is going good"

With a perfect draw of barrier two Germon worked straight to the lead with Bathurst pacer The Matrix (Angela Hedges) racing out in the breeze.

"He got the lead easy which helps a lot" added Germon.

"If I hadn’t of got the lead easy he would have been out in the breeze and racing tough then he probably wouldn’t have won"

"He has improved since he had the win at Inverell – once he had the win he was right"

"He has jumped out of the ground"

"Laura (Spencer) gave me the opportunity to train the horse back in February while she and Josh (Osborn) went on holidays so I have had him since then".

"I knew he would win a race but it was just a matter of time as to when" joked Germon.

"He has always shown a bit of ability and he is not pulling as much"

At this stage Germon is mapping out the next start for High On Dreams.

"It could be at Dubbo next Sunday – not sure yet" added Germon.

High On Dreams had a 6.1 metre win over Hunter Valley runner Pay On The Pacer (Daniel Morgan) and Inverell contender Alartmicksue (Rod Miller) 5.1 metres away third wrapping up the $7,650 metre final at Tamworth raced over the 1609 metres with a mile rate of 2.00.4
